Presses - Adjustable speed and cushion force To keep wrinkling under control, the drawing speed and the counter-holding force are set to suit the part. As the sheet gains depth, material builds up at the edge; the blank holder restrains it and prevents wrinkling. - Blank holder pressure is decisive If the pressure is too low the sheet wrinkles; if it is too high the flow is choked and the part tears; the window between the two is narrow. - Seamless vessels and bodies, multi-stage drawing ### What is a Deep Drawing Press? A deep drawing press turns a flat sheet blank into a seamless vessel or body form by letting it flow into the die cavity. The material is not cut, it is drawn. As the depth approaches the diameter, the job cannot be finished in one go; the draw is split into stages. What is decisive is not the tonnage but the control: if the blank holder pressure is too low the sheet wrinkles, if it is too high the flow is choked and the part tears. Shallow forming and bending are not this press’s work. ÖZKOÇ moved into deep drawing presses at the end of the 1970s and, as the cookware sector grew, took them into series production in the early 1980s. ### Is this press right for you? #### Suitable - Sheet metal forms whose edge is at risk of wrinkling - Deep parts where the draw has to be split into stages - Work that calls for a seamless, weld-free one-piece body - If edge trimming or flange trimming is involved: Hydraulic Cutting Press - If the volume is high and the job can be split between stations: Hydraulic Transfer Press ### Cookware — parts typically produced in this sector These images are representative — they show the shape of the part; they are not the exact parts we produce. The counter-holding force comes from the cushion cylinder beneath the bolster and is carried to the underside of the blank holder in the die by the cushion pins supported on the cushion plate. The sheet is thus held between two surfaces at a measured pressure; it does not wrinkle as it flows through the die opening. To say “the force is constant throughout the stroke” is not correct. As the resistance of the material being formed changes, so does the force; the cushion force too varies with the flow resistance of the sheet. The advantage of the hydraulic press over the eccentric one is not constancy but control: the nominal force can be obtained at any desired point of the stroke — on an eccentric press full tonnage is reached only close to bottom dead centre — the speed is profiled to suit the part, the stroke can be stopped wherever wanted, and the blank holder force is set independently of the drawing force. The result is determined as much by the die, the quality of the sheet, the lubrication and, where needed, intermediate annealing as by the press; the press alone does not make up for these. As the depth approaches the diameter the draw is split into stages, and between the stages the work-hardened sheet is softened again. ÖZKOÇ carries out the frame, the hydraulics, the electrics and the PLC/HMI software under one roof, from design through to commissioning; the drawing recipe is stored in the machine’s control. - The upper side is active: the main cylinder drives the die. - The lower side holds against it: the cushion plate feeds the blank holder through the cushion pins. - Blank holder pressure too low → the sheet wrinkles; too high → the part tears. - The force is not constant; it changes with the resistance of the material and is controlled. - As the depth approaches the diameter the draw is split into stages, and annealing may be needed in between. #### A rigid frame joined with prepared weld bevels Across ÖZKOÇ — not a feature peculiar to this press When the form and the embossing do not come out, the toolmaker is blamed at once. More often than not the die is not the cause: the press frame deflects under load and the die halves do not seat properly on one another. The frame’s share in this is usually unknown to the buyer, because it is written in no catalogue. When ÖZKOÇ builds the frame as a welded construction, it joins the crossbeams and the plates BY PREPARING A WELD BEVEL. There are many firms in the industry that join without preparing a bevel; the seam then stays on the surface only. With the bevel prepared, the seam works into the section and the frame resists deflection under load. This holds for every frame type, monoblock or column-type — it is not an option that depends on the type of press, it is ÖZKOÇ’s manufacturing discipline. - The crossbeams and the supporting plates are joined with a prepared weld bevel. - The seam does not stay on the surface, it works into the section; the frame does not deflect under load. - The same discipline is applied whether the frame is monoblock or column-type. ### This press is used in these sectors too - Cookware - Automotive - Defence Industry - Medical & Healthcare - Metalworking - Construction & Building ### Technical Specifications - We do not publish catalogue figures. - The pressing force, the bolster size and the stroke are calculated for your part. - A non-standard request is not a “deviation” but a design input. Force is obtained at any desired point of the stroke. Presses - Single-acting · no blank holder There is no counter-holding; the form is not deep and there is little or no wrinkling — a blank holder is not needed. - Shallow forming, bending, embossing, coining As long as the depth of the shape stays shallow the job is finished with a single action and no cushion setting is required. - A frame that does not deflect is decisive If the frame deflects the embossing does not come out fully, and the die gets the blame. - Standard sizes and tonnages ### What is a Hydraulic Forming Press? A forming press shapes sheet and metal parts inside a die with a single action: bending, embossing, forming, coining. There is no counter-holding force; because the form is shallow the sheet does not wrinkle at the edge and no blank holder is needed. Nominal force is obtained at any desired point of the stroke; speed and stopping point are set to suit the job. Let us state the limit as well: deep drawing that calls for a blank holder is not this press's job — that part goes to a deep drawing press. ### Is this press right for you? #### Suitable - Shallow forming, embossing, bending and coining work - Straightening and sizing - Embossed surfaces expected to reproduce the die exactly - Parts with no wrinkling risk that need no counter-holding force - If your part is deep or its edge wrinkles: Deep Drawing Press - If edge cutting and flange trimming are needed: Hydraulic Cutting Press - If you will cold coin a solid part: Coining Press ### Cookware — parts typically produced in this sector These images are representative — they show the shape of the part; they are not the exact parts we produce. Because there is no counter-holding force, there is no blank holder, no cushion cylinder and no pin arrangement. The machine is simpler, the cycle is shorter and the die is simpler — but that simplicity only pays as long as the form stays shallow. The real determinant is the frame. In forming, embossed features often fail to come out fully and the owner immediately blames the toolmaker. Yet the die is right; it is the press that deflects. When the frame opens up under load, the upper and lower die faces lose their parallelism and one end of the embossing fills while the other stays empty. This is why the importance of the frame is so often unknown to buyers — the press's tonnage is asked about, its rigidity is not. ÖZKOÇ produces the frame as a welded steel construction and prepares a weld bevel where the crossbeams are joined to the plates. Frames joined without any weld bevel are very common in the industry; the difference shows not on the first day but when you change the die and go up to full tonnage. Special jobs requiring a die core, a loader or an ejector are engineered separately; at that point the machine is no longer a standard forming press. - One cylinder, single action — no blank holder and no cushion arrangement. - If the embossing does not come out, look first at frame deflection, not at the die. - When the frame opens up, die parallelism is lost; the embossing fills at one end and falls short at the other. - Jobs requiring a die core, a loader or an ejector are engineered separately. #### Rigid frame joined with prepared weld bevels Across ÖZKOÇ — not a feature unique to this press When the form or the embossing does not come out, the toolmaker is blamed straight away. Presses - Tube in, T out It does not join separate parts; it produces the finished fitting from a single tube in a single cycle. - Weld-free, seamless fitting A weld seam is the weak point for both sealing and fatigue; here there is no joint at all. - Axial feeding under matched control Internal pressure and end feeding are set together; wall thinning stays under control. - Short cycle time Against cheap equivalents, the purchasing decision is made by output per hour. ### What is a Hydroforming Press (T-Fitting Press)? A hydroforming press applies high-pressure fluid inside a tube held in a closed die and makes the material flow into the die form. In the T-fitting application a tube goes in and a one-piece T comes out: axial cylinders feed the tube from its ends while internal pressure fills the side cavity. There is no weld seam. In a welded T the joint is the weak point for sealing and fatigue. Vessel geometries drawn from sheet metal, on the other hand, are not this press's job; for fittings of simple geometry in very high volumes, forging may be more economical. ÖZKOÇ is among the hydroforming press manufacturers that build the complete machine in their own plant: design, welded frame, machining and hydraulic assembly all take place in İstanbul. ### Is this press right for you? #### Suitable - Seamless T and branch fittings from tube - Thin-walled hollow tubular parts - Fittings where a weld seam carries a sealing or fatigue risk - If your part will be deep drawn from sheet metal: Deep Drawing Press - For shallow forming and embossing work: Hydraulic Forming Press ### Construction & Building — parts typically produced in this sector These parts are genuine samples pressed on ÖZKOÇ presses . Until you do, no request goes to YouTube. - Özkoç Hydraulic T-Fitting Press ### For those who want the detail #### How it works — and why cycle time is the talking point on this press A cut length of tube is placed in the die and the die closes. The inside of the tube is filled with fluid and pressurised. At the same time two axial cylinders push the tube from its ends and feed material. The internal pressure bulges the material out into the side cavity, while the axial feeding supplies the material that goes into that bulging area. The whole subtlety of the job lies in managing these two forces simultaneously. If pressure runs high relative to feeding, the branch area thins and bursts; if feeding runs high relative to pressure, the tube buckles and wrinkles. With the right recipe the part comes out in a single cycle, free of flash and free of welds. The recipe is specific to the part: when tube diameter, wall thickness or material grade changes, the pressure–feed curve is set up again. The comparison with welded production is simple: in a welded T the joint is the weakest point of the line for both sealing and fatigue, and welding, cleaning and testing each demand a separate station. In hydroforming the fitting is a single piece; there are no intermediate stations. There are cheap imported equivalents in this class, and the purchasing decision is usually made not by price but by output per hour: as cycle time falls, cost per part falls with it. Özkoç builds this press around speed — the cycle time figure will be published on this page, and at the quotation stage it is given according to part geometry. - The tube goes into the die, the die closes, the internal volume is pressurised with fluid - Axial cylinders feed from the ends; internal pressure bulges out the branch - The balance of pressure and feeding: too much pressure tears, too much feeding buckles - The output is a single weld-free piece — no separate welding, cleaning or leak test station - The benchmark is cycle time: output per hour determines cost per part #### Rigid frame joined with prepared weld bevels Across ÖZKOÇ — not a feature unique to this press When the form or the embossing does not come out, the toolmaker is blamed straight away. Presses - Work hardening through cold coining The grain structure is compacted and the yield strength rises; the part comes out stronger. - A rigid frame at high tonnage A frame that deflects loses the dimension and wears the die. - Shock-free force transitions Approach, coining and decompression pass smoothly through a proportional valve; there is no impact. ### What is a Coining Press? A coining press shapes a metal part by compressing it with high force in a die at room temperature. Cold coining work hardens the material: the grain structure is compacted, the yield strength rises and the part reaches its final dimension without any metal being removed. By its nature the process demands high tonnage. It does not draw sheet metal into deep vessels and it does not cast molten metal; its job is to bring a solid part to dimension and surface by compressing it. ### Is this press right for you? #### Suitable - Bringing a solid part to its final dimension by cold coining - Chipless sizing and work hardening - Surface patterning and mark impressing - If your part will be deep drawn from sheet metal: Deep Drawing Press - For shallow forming and embossing work: Hydraulic Forming Press - If your part will be produced from molten aluminium: Hydraulic Casting Press ### Cookware — parts typically produced in this sector These images are representative — they show the shape of the part; they are not the exact parts we produce. Until you do, no request goes to YouTube. - 3000 Tonne Hydraulic Coining Press - Rebar coining press ### For those who want the detail #### How it works — and why tonnage alone is not enough The part is placed in the die, the ram descends and compresses the material at room temperature. The material flows, fills the die cavity and takes on the die surface. There is no heating; dimensions are therefore consistent and there is no scale and no distortion, but the force required is far above that of a hot process. The real gain from cold coining is not the dimension but the material: the grain structure is compacted, the yield strength rises and the surface hardens. Had the same part been machined, the grain flow would have been cut through and material would have been lost as swarf. In coining there is no loss, only material that has moved. Tonnage on its own is not a sufficient promise. If the frame deflects under high force, the parallelism between ram and bolster is lost; the part is coined more on one side, the dimension drifts and the die wears on one side. That is why what is decisive in this class is not the tonnage figure but how much the frame deflects at that tonnage. The force transitions must also be free of shock. The approach is fast, the coining slow and controlled, and the decompression staged; a proportional valve smooths these transitions. A sudden release hammers both the die and the machine. With high-alloy materials it is often not possible to reach the shape in a single stage — the number of stages is calculated from the part and the material. - Cold process: no scale, no distortion, consistent dimensions - Work hardening: the grain structure is compacted, yield strength and surface hardness increase - No material lost as swarf — the material is not cut, it is displaced - What is decisive is not tonnage but frame deflection and ram parallelism at that tonnage - Approach / coining / decompression are managed shock-free by a proportional valve - With high-alloy materials the number of stages is calculated from the part #### Rigid frame joined with prepared weld bevels Across ÖZKOÇ — not a feature unique to this press When the form or the embossing does not come out, the toolmaker is blamed straight away. Presses - It works with an open mould No air bubbles are trapped inside the aluminium. - Half the tonnage of die casting There is no need to push molten metal through narrow channels; mould cost and floor space also come down by half. - Around 1% scrap rate The scrap rate for the same job in die casting is in the tens of per cent. - A design developed by Özkoç itself ### What is a Hydraulic Casting Press? A casting press pours molten aluminium into an open mould and shapes it with press force. For parts of suitable geometry it is the alternative to an aluminium die casting machine: a simpler mould, less tonnage and less floor space. It is a press developed by Özkoç itself. It is not a machine that trims the flash or the runner off a finished casting; it produces the part directly from liquid metal. Nor does it form sheet metal — sheet work belongs to deep drawing and forming presses. ### Is this press right for you? #### Suitable - Producing parts directly from molten aluminium - Aluminium bodies to be Teflon-coated or painted afterwards - Geometries that suit an open mould — kitchen utensils, handles, bodies - If you will trim the flash or the runner off a casting: Hydraulic Cutting Press - If your part will be drawn from sheet metal: Deep Drawing Press - For shallow forming and embossing work: Hydraulic Forming Press ### Cookware — parts typically produced in this sector These parts are genuine samples pressed on ÖZKOÇ presses . Send your part drawing - Aluminium cast body pressed in an open mould ### Metalworking — parts typically produced in this sector - Aluminium cast body pressed in an open mould ### For those who want the detail #### How it works — and why this instead of die casting? Molten aluminium is placed into the open mould. The press descends and spreads the metal into the mould cavity. The mould is not a closed cavity; the metal is not forced through narrow channels but spreads under gravity and press force. The whole character of the press follows from this single difference. The classic route for the same part is an aluminium die casting machine. Cem Bey's comparison runs as follows: the die casting machine demands twice the tonnage for this job, takes up far more floor area, its mould costs twice as much as this one and its price is twice as high as well. The reason for the extra tonnage is mechanical — pushing molten metal through very narrow channels is an energy item in its own right. The second item is the runner. In die casting the aluminium that solidifies in the channels has to be cut away from the product itself and then melted down again. That aluminium is recovered, but the melting energy spent on it is not. On the quality side the difference is even clearer. While the scrap rate in die casting is in the tens of per cent, on this press it stays at around one per cent. The reason is again the open mould: no air bubbles are trapped inside the aluminium. With no air bubbles left, the paint or Teflon coating applied afterwards is not spoiled either — and that is exactly what is decisive for coated cookware. For parts of suitable geometry this machine is the alternative to an aluminium die casting machine. It is a design developed entirely by Özkoç and puts ease of operation first. - Open mould: the metal is not forced through narrow channels and no air bubbles are trapped - Half the tonnage and half the mould cost of die casting, with a smaller footprint - Scrap rate: tens of per cent in die casting, around one per cent on this press - No runner — no surplus aluminium to be cut away and melted down again - Coating compatibility: a bubble-free surface does not spoil paint or Teflon #### Rigid frame joined with prepared weld bevels Across ÖZKOÇ — not a feature unique to this press When the form or the embossing does not come out, the toolmaker is blamed straight away. The SMC & BMC press shapes glass-fibre reinforced thermoset compounds by curing them under pressure in a heated mould. Tractor bonnets and covers, the complete front panel of a bus and large outdoor electrical cabinets are this press's work. What is decisive is cycle speed: the material can crystallise once it is inside the mould, and if the press does not close quickly the part is spoiled. On large, asymmetric parts a ram that descends parallel to the platen reduces thickness variation and therefore material consumption. A cured thermoset cannot be remelted; melamine products are not this press's job. ### Is this press right for you? #### Suitable - Moulding of glass-fibre reinforced thermoset SMC sheet and BMC bulk - Large-area, non-symmetrical panels and covers - Large outdoor electrical enclosures - For toilet seats and melamine tableware: Melamine Press - If you will press continuous-fibre prepreg / organosheet: Composite Press ### Automotive — parts typically produced in this sector These images are representative — they show the shape of the part; they are not the exact parts we produce. Both are placed in a heated mould, the press closes, and the material flows and cures under pressure. A cured thermoset does not go back — so the cycle leaves no room for melting down and trying again; it is a get-it-right-first-time job. Cycle speed is therefore not a comfort but a quality requirement. The material can begin to crystallise the moment it enters the mould; if the press does not close fast enough the part is spoiled before it has even filled. ÖZKOÇ designs this press to close fast. The second issue is asymmetry. Most parts produced on this press are not symmetrical in geometry: a tractor bonnet, a bus front panel, a large electrical cabinet. An asymmetric part produces an asymmetric load in the mould; if the ram tilts to one side, a thickness difference appears between one corner of the part and the other. Extreme asymmetry calls for a special construction, but ÖZKOÇ's own standard design has proved suitable for many asymmetric applications without any special solution. On large parts the ram parallelism system designed by ÖZKOÇ comes into play: roughly four counter-holding systems keep the ram descending parallel to the lower platen. For the buyer this translates into the following: - Corner-to-corner thickness variation across the part is reduced to a minimum - Material is saved; no extra wall thickness is added as a safety margin - Because the material is homogeneous, the strength comes out as intended - No extra heat or material is spent #### Rigid frame joined with prepared weld bevels Across ÖZKOÇ — not a feature unique to this press When the form or the embossing does not come out, the toolmaker is blamed straight away. More often than not the die is not the cause: the press frame deflects under load and the two halves of the die no longer seat fully on each other. The share the frame has in this is usually unknown on the buyer's side, because it is written in no catalogue. When ÖZKOÇ builds the frame as a welded construction, it joins the crossbeams and the plates BY PREPARING A WELD BEVEL. There are many companies in the sector that join without preparing a bevel; the weld then stays on the surface only. Once the bevel is prepared, the weld penetrates the cross-section and the frame resists deflection under load. This holds for every frame type, monoblock or column-type — it is not an option that depends on the type of press, it is ÖZKOÇ's manufacturing discipline. - Crossbeams and support plates are joined with a prepared weld bevel. - The weld does not stay on the surface, it penetrates the cross-section; the frame does not deflect under load. - The same discipline is applied whether the frame is monoblock or column-type. #### Ram parallelism system Across ÖZKOÇ — not a feature unique to this press On wide and asymmetric parts the load bears on one corner of the ram; the ram comes down slightly tilted and one corner of the part turns out thicker than the other. The result: excess material, uneven strength, unnecessary heat and cycle time. In the ram parallelism system designed by ÖZKOÇ itself, four counter-pressure cylinders bring the ram down parallel to the lower plate. The difference in thickness between the corners drops to a minimum; material is saved, and the homogeneity of the part keeps the strength where it is wanted. The same arrangement works in cutting as well: at the instant the shear occurs, the counter-pressure cylinders absorb the shock, maintain parallelism and extend the life of the cutting die. - Four counter-pressure cylinders bring the ram down parallel to the lower plate. - On a wide and asymmetric part the difference in thickness between the corners drops to a minimum. - Material savings + homogeneous strength. - In cutting it absorbs the shock and extends die life. ### This press is used in these sectors too - Automotive - Defence Industry - Electrical & Energy ### Technical Specifications - We do not publish catalogue figures. - The pressing force, the bolster size and the stroke are calculated for your part. - A non-standard request is not a “deviation” but a design input. The silicone curing press turns solid silicone compound into a finished part by vulcanising it under pressure in a heated mould. What is decisive is not force but the balance of temperature and time: the mould is heated zone by zone, and cure time and dwell under pressure are held in the recipe. ### Is this press right for you? #### Suitable - Shaping solid silicone compound by curing it in a mould - Multi-cavity baking and cake moulds, silicone kitchenware parts - Silicone gaskets, bellows and heat-resistant sealing elements - Skirted insulation parts such as silicone insulators and cable terminations - If your material is ordinary rubber: Rubber Curing Press ### Cookware — parts typically produced in this sector These images are representative — they show the shape of the part; they are not the exact parts we produce. This press is the machine for the first route — a measured charge of compound is placed in the mould, vulcanises under pressure between heated platens, and the finished part comes out of the mould. Although both routes use the same material, their machines, moulds and cost structures differ; stating at the outset which route you will produce by makes sure your enquiry reaches the right machine. Silicone's curing window is narrower than that of most rubbers. Under-cured, the part stays tacky; over-cured, it turns brittle. Temperature and time are therefore tied to the HMI recipe, the mould is heated zone by zone, and thermocouple feedback corrects any deviation within the cycle. In multi-cavity moulds — baking and cake moulds, gasket cavities — every cavity coming out at the same thickness depends on the parallelism of the platens. The closing profile also determines flash: a mould that closes too fast pushes material out, one that closes too slowly leaves air in the cavity. The silicone curing press belongs to the same hot press family as the melamine and rubber presses. The frame, the heating infrastructure and the recipe logic are shared; what changes is the mould, the number of zones and the cycle time. - Zoned mould heating with thermocouple feedback - Cure time and dwell under pressure held in the HMI recipe - A platen arrangement that holds cavity-to-cavity thickness variation in multi-cavity moulds - Flash control through the closing profile setting - A shared frame family open to melamine and rubber work as well #### Rigid frame joined with prepared weld bevels Across ÖZKOÇ — not a feature unique to this press When the form or the embossing does not come out, the toolmaker is blamed straight away. The brake lining curing press cures the friction compound of a brake lining — resin, fibre, filler — under pressure in a heated mould. Send your part drawing - representative Disc pad and drum brake lining - representative Heavy-duty friction element ### Construction & Building — parts typically produced in this sector - representative Heavy-duty friction element ### For those who want the detail #### What decides the job on a brake lining press: heat, time and letting the gas out A brake lining is not a part formed like sheet metal but a compound cured inside a mould. The compound of resin, fibre and filler is charged into the mould, held under pressure between heated platens, and the resin hardens to build the bond structure that holds the part together. Gas forms in the resin during curing. If this gas is not taken out of the mould the part blisters from the inside, the friction surface stays porous and the lining fails to reach the friction coefficient expected of it in the brake. Degassing (breathing) steps — the ram breathing at short intervals — are therefore part of the recipe, not decoration. The friction coefficient coming out the same from part to part depends on the temperature at the mould face being the same at every point. Zoned heating and thermocouple feedback hold the mould at a single temperature; in multi-cavity moulds the rigidity of the frame ensures that every cavity receives the same pressure. ÖZKOÇ does not build brake lining presses as a single type: top-acting, bottom-acting and multi-daylight arrangements are chosen according to the mould structure of the job. The same frame family is also used for other hot press work such as rubber and melamine; what changes is the mould, the number of heating zones and the recipe. - Heated platens with zone-by-zone thermocouple control - Degassing (breathing) steps defined in the recipe - Closing speed and dwell time under pressure are set separately - Top-acting, bottom-acting and multi-daylight frame arrangements - Recording of cure temperature and cycle data (optional) #### Rigid frame joined with prepared weld bevels Across ÖZKOÇ — not a feature unique to this press When the form or the embossing does not come out, the toolmaker is blamed straight away. The melamine press shapes melamine and resin-based moulding compounds by curing them under pressure in a heated mould. Quality depends less on mechanics than on thermal discipline: mould temperature is controlled zone by zone and the degassing cycle vents the volatiles formed in the compound. Until you do, no request goes to YouTube. - Özkoç 250 Tonne Hydraulic Melamine Press ### For those who want the detail #### Thermoset curing, degassing and the two-daylight arrangement Melamine compound is cured under pressure in a heated mould. Because it is a thermoset, a cured part cannot be remelted: if there is a fault the part is scrap, there is no second chance. What determines quality is therefore not mechanical force but thermal discipline — the same temperature in every zone, the same time in every cycle. The mould is heated zone by zone and the volatiles formed in the compound are vented by degassing steps. If venting falls short, blisters and porosity are left on the surface; on work such as tableware, where a glossy, pore-free surface is required, that is scrap outright. With the optional SCADA package, cure temperatures and dwell times under pressure are recorded on a cycle-by-cycle basis. Besides tableware, the same family also presses resin-based moulding compounds. The toilet seat is the typical example: a large, asymmetric and thick part. In the two-daylight press arrangement two moulds work one above the other in the same frame; on parts like these, where the load falls off centre, a ram that descends parallel determines the thickness and flatness of the seat. The melamine press belongs to the same hot press family as the silicone and rubber presses; the frame and the heating infrastructure are shared, and what changes is the mould and the recipe. The ballistic plate and helmet press cures protection plates, composite helmets and chest–arm–shoulder protection parts under pressure between heated platens. Until you do, no request goes to YouTube. - ÖZKOÇ Composite press for ballistic applications ### For those who want the detail #### How it works: lamination, the protection side and what makes helmets different A ballistic protection part is produced by turning a layered preform into a single body under heat and pressure. The air between the layers is driven out, the resin flows, the section is compacted and the laminate cures. The protection class is determined as much by how evenly pressure and temperature are distributed over the plate surface as by the number of layers: a single weak area lowers the class of the whole plate. A helmet is a different engineering problem from a flat plate. In a deep dome form, pressure and temperature have to be carried to every point of the layered preform at the same time; the mould and the pressure distribution are built accordingly. Helmets and flat plates stand together on this page because the machine family and the curing logic are the same. Mould heating is done in two ways: a hot oil circuit both heats and cools; with electric resistance heating, cooling is handled by a separate water circuit. The dwell time under pressure determines the cycle. The scope distinction matters: this press works on the protective side — helmets, chest protection, arm and shoulder protection. Ammunition cases and similar metal forming work belong to the offensive side and are done on deep drawing presses. One final note: ballistic performance is proved not by the press but by ballistic testing at an accredited laboratory. The press produces a repeatable laminate; the test provides the class certificate. - Combat helmet and helmet shell - Chest protection plate - Arm and shoulder protection part - Armour panel and composite protective plate #### Rigid frame joined with prepared weld bevels Across ÖZKOÇ — not a feature unique to this press When the form or the embossing does not come out, the toolmaker is blamed straight away. Send your part drawing - representative Laboratory sample and pre-series part ### Metalworking — parts typically produced in this sector - representative Laboratory sample and pre-series part ### For those who want the detail #### Why it is a specimen press, not a 'test press' Here is the point that gets confused: the press does not perform tests. The press produces the part on which you will perform them. To learn how a material behaves, parts are pressed from the same material by different processes and those parts are then tried. The answer being sought is not 'how much did the material withstand' but 'which process gave the best result'. For that, the temperature, pressure and time of every trial must be held precisely on the press and put on record. A Siemens S7-1200 PLC and SCADA record the process parameters against time; the machine can be monitored remotely from a computer or a phone. The parameters under which the specimen in your hand was pressed can thus be read immediately, and the search converges on the ideal process. When the ideal process is found, what you have is not a part but a formula: the recipe for large-scale production. That recipe is transferred to the production press. This is why a laboratory press is deliberately small — it is built to make decisions, not to press quantities. With composite materials, cooling is part of the process too. Depending on the need, air, air+water or hot oil cooling solutions are built into the machine. The press can also be supplied together with the mould for the part to be tried. - The press does not test; it produces the specimen to be tested. - The temperature, pressure and time of every trial are recorded against time. - The output is not a part but the process recipe to be transferred to series production. - Air, air+water or hot oil cooling options for composites. - Remote monitoring: the machine is followed from a computer or a phone. - Supplied together with its mould on request. #### Rigid frame joined with prepared weld bevels Across ÖZKOÇ — not a feature unique to this press When the form or the embossing does not come out, the toolmaker is blamed straight away. ### This press is used in these sectors too - Defence Industry - Metalworking ### Technical Specifications - We do not publish catalogue figures. - The pressing force, the bolster size and the stroke are calculated for your part. - A non-standard request is not a “deviation” but a design input. Presses - Cutting is the real purpose Bending and flange trimming are done on the same press too; but the machine is built for cutting. - The counter-pressure cylinders take the shock, not the frame At the end of the cut the counter-pressure cylinders come in and absorb the sudden release of load. - The compact alternative to a mechanical press At high tonnage the frame of a mechanical (eccentric) press grows and becomes expensive; a hydraulic press does the same job in a smaller package. - Longer die life, cleaner cut edge The counter-pressure cylinders also help parallelism, and the impact does not pass into the die. ### What is a Hydraulic Cutting Press? The hydraulic cutting press is built for cutting sheet metal parts. It trims the flange left at the mouth of a vessel after deep drawing and, where needed, bends the remaining edge; cutting and bending can be sequenced in the same frame. Its real purpose is cutting — bending is a capability that comes alongside it. This press does not form the part; the part arrives beneath it already drawn. In cutting the real issue is not force but the sudden release of load at the end of the cut. We do not make the frame carry that shock: we absorb it with counter-pressure cylinders. ### Is this press right for you? #### Suitable - Cutting thick sheet and cutting at high tonnage - Trimming the flange left after deep drawing - Work where cutting and bending are wanted in the same cycle - Small-batch cutting work with frequent die changes - If the part has to be drawn first: Deep Drawing Press - If you need shallow forming or sizing rather than cutting: Hydraulic Forming Press - If the cut sits inside a multi-step line: Hydraulic Transfer Press ### Cookware — parts typically produced in this sector These images are representative — they show the shape of the part; they are not the exact parts we produce. A shock arises during the cut: real cutting takes place over only about a third of the material thickness, and the rest is not cutting but shearing off — the material breaks away suddenly. That sudden break drops the pressure in the hydraulic system all at once, and the frame springs back with a snatching motion. The die does not like it, the press does not like it, and the hydraulic system itself likes it least of all. A mechanical (eccentric) press handles this more comfortably because it uses the smooth transition inherent in circular motion; that is why it is the press that comes to mind when cutting is mentioned. But at high cutting tonnages the frame of a mechanical press also grows and the cost of the press rises. This is where a hydraulic press built with a frame structure that absorbs the shock becomes a very good alternative to increasingly expensive cutting arrangements. This is how we do it: the system pressure is kept as low as possible. At the end of the cut, at the point where the material will shear away, the counter-pressure cylinders become active and absorb the shock. A far more compact press thus carries out a cutting operation that demands high power, and the factors that damage the press are eliminated altogether. The counter-pressure cylinders also help parallelism — the cutting die lasts longer and the cut edge of the part comes out cleaner. You can bend on the same press as well: the flange left at the mouth of a deep-drawn vessel is trimmed and the remaining edge is bent or curled. Centring the cut line, compensating for earing and allowing for springback are settled through die trials; this is not something to be hit on the first part. A different part family means a different die; the press itself does not change. - Only part of the cut is real cutting; the rest is a sudden shear — this is where the shock comes from. - System pressure is kept low; the counter-pressure cylinders come in at the moment of shear. - The shock goes into the counter-pressure arrangement, not into the frame and the die. - At high tonnage the frame and the cost of a mechanical press grow; the hydraulic solution stays more compact. - Counter-holding helps parallelism: die life increases and the cut edge becomes cleaner. - Flange trimming and edge bending are sequenced in the same frame; the part arrives at the press already drawn. #### Rigid frame joined with prepared weld bevels Across ÖZKOÇ — not a feature unique to this press When the form or the embossing does not come out, the toolmaker is blamed straight away. The part is pressed on the first press and carried away; pressed on the second press and carried away again. The result is a factory full of machines, people and work in progress. A transfer press lines these steps up side by side in a single frame: at every cycle every station presses at the same time, and the transfer arm sets the parts down into the next die. Because the stations work simultaneously, cycle time comes down to the slowest station rather than to the total number of steps. This is where the return on the investment comes from — instead of an operator and a slice of time per step, a finished product per press stroke. We do not simply call this machine a press, we call it automation. Trimming, cutting or holes are usually needed between the steps; we apply those on the same press too. Set up with sheet cutting or blank feeding, loading and transfer units, the line turns into a production cell that runs on its own from raw material to finished part. A progressive press and a transfer press are not the same thing. In a progressive press the parts stay attached to the same sheet right to the end; what moves them along is the strip being pushed forward, and the part is cut free from the strip at the very last step. In a transfer press every part is independent from the outset; a separate transfer arm picks them all up together and places them in the next die. Deep, bulky parts cannot be carried on a strip and so fall into transfer's territory. - Every station presses at every cycle; one finished part leaves the press per stroke. - Cycle time depends on the slowest station, not on the number of steps. - Intermediate operations such as trimming, cutting and piercing are done on the same line. - Progressive: the part stays on the strip and is cut free at the end. Transfer: the part is independent from the outset and is carried by an arm. - It makes sense on high-volume, long-running work; on small batches with frequent product changes a single-station press is more economical. #### Rigid frame joined with prepared weld bevels Across ÖZKOÇ — not a feature unique to this press When the form or the embossing does not come out, the toolmaker is blamed straight away. Until you do, no request goes to YouTube. - Özkoç - Hydraulic Composite Press - ÖZKOÇ Composite press for ballistic applications ### For those who want the detail #### How it works: consolidation and heating–cooling engineering Composite is not a single material but a heading. Kevlar, glass and carbon fibre, ballistic composite, technical thermoplastics such as PEEK and the new formulations that appear every year at the JEC show in Paris — all of them come under this heading. The press is therefore built not around a single material but around the cycle range it will work in. The work being done is thermal, not mechanical: the resin becomes fluid, the air trapped between the layers is driven out, the section is compacted, and the part consolidates or cures. If platen parallelism drifts, section thickness varies locally; if degassing is insufficient, voids are left between the layers. ÖZKOÇ's real accumulated experience here lies on the heating and cooling side. In most jobs the heating system also includes the cooling system, and the right cycle varies from material to material. ÖZKOÇ has built every variety of these systems; a customer arriving with a new recipe does not have to search from scratch for the heating–cooling combination that works. With a new material the way is usually opened with a small batch: specimen and recipe trials are run on a laboratory press, and once the cycle has settled the same curve is carried over to the series production press. This is why a composite press is not a single machine but a family of cycles. This accumulated experience is ÖZKOÇ's real difference against cheap alternatives that compare presses on price alone: what is bought is not a press but a cycle that answers the material's recipe. - Mould heating with hot oil - Heating with electric resistance elements - Controlled cooling with a water circuit - Air cooling - Heating and cooling managed together within the same cycle #### Rigid frame joined with prepared weld bevels Across ÖZKOÇ — not a feature unique to this press When the form or the embossing does not come out, the toolmaker is blamed straight away. The grains interlock; the part leaving the die has not yet been fired but is dense enough to carry its own weight. Final hardness is given by the kiln; the kiln and powder preparation are outside the press's scope, and these steps have to be considered separately when the line is planned. The whole job comes down to density distribution. If the powder is not at the same density at every point, shrinkage in the kiln varies locally and the part distorts; trapped air that is not vented raises blisters during firing; if pressure is removed suddenly the green body cracks. The pressing is therefore staged, the degassing stops are planned and the release is ramped. The pressure profile sits in the PLC recipe, and when the blend changes so does the recipe; even if the die throws its weight to one side, the ram must still descend parallel. The salt core is this press's most instructive job. The core that forms the internal cavity of a casting is pressed from salt; once the casting has solidified the part is washed, the core dissolves in water and what is left behind is an internal channel too narrow to be obtained with a sand core. Piston cooling galleries are made this way. If density is not homogeneous across the core section the core breaks, and the fault shows up in the most expensive place — in the casting itself. Where the internal geometry is simple, on the other hand, a sand core is more economical — a salt core is not the right choice for every casting. Zirconia blocks, CAD/CAM discs for dentistry, glass mosaic tiles, small ceramic borders — all of them are the same class of machine. What changes is the die and the feeding automation: one runs with robotic loading and unloading, another produces dozens of parts per cycle from a multi-cavity die. Opening a separate press category for every material name misleads the buyer; the machine is defined by the process, not by the material. - Die filling → staged compaction → degassing stops → ramped release → green part - The pressure profile is held in the PLC recipe; when the blend changes, the recipe changes - A ram that descends parallel is the precondition for even density in a multi-cavity die - It works integrated with an automatic loading and unloading robot; the operator does not touch the die - Out of scope: powder preparation, granulation, glazing and the sintering kiln #### Rigid frame joined with prepared weld bevels Across ÖZKOÇ — not a feature unique to this press When the form or the embossing does not come out, the toolmaker is blamed straight away. Until you do, no request goes to YouTube. - Özkoç 400 tonne Hydraulic Rubber Vulcanising Press ### For those who want the detail #### How vulcanisation proceeds and where the metal-to-rubber bond is formed Rubber compound enters the mould as a plastic dough. Under heat and pressure the material becomes an elastic part that cannot go back. The press's task is to hold temperature, pressure and closing position steady throughout that period. It is not the press that decides when the cycle ends but the cure curve of the compound. A mould opened too early yields an undercured part, one opened too late a brittle one. Cure time is therefore tied to the HMI recipe, the mould is heated zone by zone, and thermocouple feedback closes the temperature difference across the platen. On parts where metal and rubber are processed together the press does two jobs in one cycle: the metal insert is placed in the mould, the rubber is cured onto it and the bond is formed in the mould. Vibration mounts, bushings and bearings are produced this way; no separate bonding station is needed. On large-area work — such as the big elastomeric bearing pads used in bridge and building connections — what is decisive is that pressure is distributed evenly across the plate. On parts like these, where the load falls off centre, the rigidity of the frame and a ram that descends parallel directly determine the thickness tolerance. For small parts in high volumes a rubber injection moulding machine is faster. This press is the machine for medium batches and large-area parts; it comes from the same hot press family as the silicone and melamine presses, and what changes is the mould and the recipe. - Zoned platen heating with thermocouple feedback - The cure recipe is managed from the HMI and the cycle follows the recipe - Adjustable degassing (breathing) steps - On metal-reinforced parts the bond is formed in the same cycle - A frame arrangement suited to large-platen plate and bearing work #### Rigid frame joined with prepared weld bevels Across ÖZKOÇ — not a feature unique to this press When the form or the embossing does not come out, the toolmaker is blamed straight away. As the sheet gains depth, material builds up at the edge; the blank holder holds it down and eliminates wrinkling. - Blank holder pressure is decisive If the pressure is too low the sheet wrinkles, if it is too high the flow is choked and the part tears; the window between them is narrow. - Seamless vessels and bodies, multi-stage drawing #### Hydraulic Forming Press - Single-acting · no blank holder There is no counter-holding; the form is not deep and there is little or no wrinkling — a blank holder is not needed. - Shallow forming, bending, embossing, coining As long as the depth of the shape stays shallow the job is finished with a single action and no cushion setting is required. - A frame that does not deflect is decisive If the frame deflects the embossing does not come out fully, and the die gets the blame. - Standard sizes and tonnages #### SMC & BMC Press - Glass-reinforced thermoset sheet SMC comes as sheet and BMC as bulk; both take shape by curing under heat and pressure. - Cycle speed is decisive Once the material is inside the mould it can start to crystallise; if the press does not close quickly the part is spoiled before it fills. - A standard frame suited to asymmetric loads Most products are not symmetrical; the standard design covers most of them without a special construction. - Ram parallelism system Four counter-holding points bring the ram down parallel; corner-to-corner thickness variation and material waste fall. #### Silicone Curing Press - Solid silicone compound work It is the machine for production from solid compound; injected liquid silicone is a different route. - The same hot press family as the melamine and rubber presses #### Brake Lining Curing Press - Degassing cycle Gas forms during curing; if it is not vented the part blisters and the friction surface stays porous. - Zoned mould heating A temperature difference across the mould shifts the friction coefficient from part to part. - Top-acting, bottom-acting and multi-daylight frame arrangements #### Hydraulic Transfer Press - One finished part per press stroke All the steps are pressed in the same cycle; the part is passed automatically between stations. - No press, operator or die per step One machine gathers work spread over separate presses; intermediate handling and work in progress disappear. - Not just a press, an automation line The trimming, cutting and piercing needed between the steps are applied on the same line. - With sheet cutting or blank feeding, loading and transfer units #### Composite Press - Composite is a broad heading Kevlar, glass and carbon fibre, ballistic composite and newer materials such as PEEK all sit under the same roof. - Heating and cooling together Hot oil, electric heating, water or air cooling; the cycle is built around the material's recipe. - Fibre orientation is preserved The semi-finished material does not flow in the mould but consolidates where it lies; the calculated strength stays in the part. - A pressure–temperature–time cycle managed by recipe #### Hydraulic Cutting Press - Cutting is the real purpose Bending and flange trimming are done on the same press too; but the machine is built for cutting. #### Powder Compacting Press - Dry powder, compacted in the die The powder fills the die cavity and interlocks under pressure; the part comes out hard enough to be handled. - Even density at every point A difference in density changes shrinkage in the kiln locally; distortion and cracking arise from this. - Staged pressure, ramped release Trapped air that is not vented raises blisters; if the pressure is released suddenly the green body cracks. - The same principle, different automation Salt cores, zirconia blocks and glass mosaics are the same compaction; what changes is the die and the feeding. #### Rubber Curing Press - Vulcanisation under pressure The material that enters the mould as a dough leaves it as an elastic part. - Metal and rubber together The metal insert is placed in the mould and the rubber is cured onto it; the bond needs no separate station. - Large-area plate, bearing and profile work ### Filter production in Hatay and Osmaniye Hatay and Osmaniye are among Turkey’s leading regions for automotive and construction machinery filter production. The economic life of a hydraulic press runs to decades. We commission the presses we build on site, train the team that will use them, and meet maintenance, breakdown and modernisation requests throughout the life of the machine. Request Service - 01 Commissioning Installation of the press on site, checking of the hydraulic and electrical connections, and running it under production conditions. - 02 Operator training On-site training for the team who will use the machine, covering operation, setting and safety rules. - 03 Breakdown response On notification of a stoppage, our technical team responds remotely or on site. - 04 Overhaul and modernisation Renewal of the hydraulic, electrical and control systems of older presses that are still in service. - 05 Spare parts Supply of original parts specified in the press’s own project. - 06 A solution for an existing machine We examine the machine in place and explain what can be done on the hydraulic, electrical and control side. - 07 A solution for the production process We assess your part, your die and your existing line together, and produce press and automation solutions that will improve your production process. #### The job does not end when the press is delivered ##### From the first quotation to years afterwards The relationship begins with a quotation: we talk through your part, your material and your cycle target; the technical quotation is prepared with tonnage, bolster and stroke figures. Design, frame manufacture, hydraulic and electrical assembly, software and acceptance testing all run under one roof — your contact does not change at any stage in between. The file does not close once the press has been installed and commissioned on site and your team has been trained. The economic life of a hydraulic press runs to decades, and throughout that time maintenance, breakdowns, spare parts and modernisation are handled from the same place. When you ask for a spare part, we hold the record of which project the press was calculated for and which part was fitted; older presses still in service go back into production after their hydraulic, electrical and control sides have been renewed. In other words, the relationship is measured not by a sale but by the life of the machine. #### The right part, from the right project ##### Please send us the following when you request a part **Serial number**: It is on the machine plate — it lets us match the part to the project **Year of manufacture**: If the serial number cannot be read, it narrows down the match **Part description**: Its name, its position or, if you have it, the part number **Photograph**: A photograph of the part and of the plate speeds up the match ##### Why an original part - On a hydraulic press the cylinders, valves and sealing elements are selected according to the tonnage of the press and its cycle regime. - An equivalent part may work in the short term. - But it can change the cycle time, the oil temperature and the behaviour of the safety functions. - For a spare part, we hold the record of which project the press was calculated for and which part was fitted. #### Create a service request If production has stopped, please also call +90 850 840 53 19 — the form opens a record, the call gets the team moving straight away. ozkoc@ozkoc.com.tr · +90 850 840 53 19 · +90 212 550 48 06 +90 850 840 53 19 · +90 212 550 48 06 ozkoc@ozkoc.com.tr · export@ozkoc.com.tr Ömerli Mah. History · Our Quality Policy · Presses --- ## History URL: https://ozkoc.com.tr/en/history/ ÖZKOÇ from 1945 to today: from an apprentice in Karaköy to a hydraulic press manufacturer in its third generation. History Eighty years of craftsmanship, from 1945 to the present day: from marine engines to 7,000-tonne presses. Construction of the Güneşli factory, 1978 1945 Origins ### An apprentice in Karaköy Ali Şükrü Koçan was born in 1933 in Derepazarı, Rize. He lost his father and his sister to tuberculosis; his mother was trying to make a living by making paper bags and selling them at the market. He was twelve years old when he set out so that the family could gain a foothold in İstanbul. At the careening yard in Karaköy he became apprentice to a turner who repaired ships and marine engines. These were the engines that gave engineering its name in Western languages — the school of the self-taught machinist. At seventeen he was a well-known master at the careening yard; it was there, too, that he learnt forging and forming iron from the neighbouring smithies. His last job with his master was to overhaul a ship the army had written off — engine and crane system included — and put it back in the water. By the time he handed the work over, his own preparations were long since finished: his master saw him off at the railway station in tears. Ahmet Özer (left) and Ali Şükrü Koçan (right), Karaköy careening yard, 1950 1960 Germany ### He learnt the language before he went When he decided to go to Germany he worked in the workshop by day and went to German classes at night. He joined a factory that made machine tools; for a long time they had the well-known master of the careening yard do nothing but apprentice work. He did not take offence. He worked on the lathe, on the milling machine, on the boring mill and on assembly alike — not a usual thing there. Before long he was the man the 700 -strong factory called on for overtime; because of the changes he made without asking anyone, simply to make the work easier, they put his name on the roll of honour without his even knowing. Three years later he left to go to America. He came back to Turkey to see his family, married in 1963 and never went. Years later the friend he had planned to travel with sent him a postcard with a picture of a bridge on it. 1964 Foundation ### Öz-Koç is founded With his childhood friend Ahmet Özer he set to work in a workshop of 60 m² ; the name of the company came from the two surnames. The aim was to make plastic goods, and for that they began building an injection moulding machine. A buyer turned up before the machine was even finished. “We can always build ourselves another,” they said, and sold it. The next one was sold too, and the one after that. ÖZKOÇ never did become a plastics maker — it became a machine builder. Before long they moved into a shop of 300 m² . In the scarcity of those years even bolts and nuts came off the scrap heap, and delivery times ran to two years. “We used to work until the small hours. And did we make a lot of money? No.” Ahmet Özer (left) and Ali Şükrü Koçan (right) in their own workshop 1975 Invention ### The first prefill valve made in Turkey Melamine kitchenware was in fashion in those years, but the presses on the market were inefficient. Huge pumps were used to bring the ram down quickly — whereas a small pump was enough to compress the melamine. “It was known that there was such a thing as a prefill valve in the West, but what it was and how it worked — how was I to know? I set about finding out.” After months of trial and error he built the valve: gravity was enough to bring the ram down, and the large pumps were out of the circuit. The source records this as the first prefill valve made in Turkey — not a copy. The result could be measured: while the best press on the market gave 2 parts per cycle, the ÖZKOÇ press gave first 8 , then 16 . Within a few years melamine ware came down from the shelves of the luxury shops to the market stall. The same valve design is still in use today. “A good many press builders copied it. Never mind, let them — that is the fate and the responsibility of going first.” 1976 Export ### The first press goes abroad The first export went to a neighbouring country. They had a joiner make the crate the press was to go into; the crate broke apart as it was being loaded onto the lorry, and they got the press back down to the ground with difficulty. “We built the machine and we were going to export it, but we could not build a crate.” 1978 Plant ### Güneşli: the factory built with his own hands He bought the land and did the design of the building himself, going round the buildings of firms he knew. The steel structure, the columns, the trusses, the crane girders, the frames, even the steel doors — all of it was made in the shop in Rami and carried there by lorry. There was neither a crane nor the money to hire one. He would leave work at five in the evening and go to the building site with his children. Ali Erdem and Cem, then of primary and secondary school age, helped their father with the assembly and the welding. When a newly opened road cut across the entrance to the factory 5 m lower down, the move had to wait: the building was occupied in 1986 . Ali Şükrü Koçan, construction of the Güneşli factory, early 1980s 1980 Product range ### Deep drawing presses and the thermal base As the manufacture of steel pans spread, deep drawing presses were needed. He applied the prefill valve to these presses as well, and again the difference was measured in figures: “With the presses of the day, a stainless steel bowl could be pressed 800 times at most. Our machine could press 2.500 of the same bowl.” Bonding aluminium to the base of a pan — what is now called a thermal base — was work nobody knew about in those years; the methods coming from Europe were expensive. Although it was not strictly his own field, it caught his interest and he was convinced it could be done under heat and pressure on a hydraulic press. “My father would bring home the samples he had pressed in the shop during the day; we would heat them on the stove and cool them in water — that was our work in the evenings until bedtime.” Within a year he had found the method, the parameters and the die structure by trial and error. The base bonding processes carried out in the industry today follow on from that work. 1984 Manufacturing method ### The cylinder they said “could not be rolled” The cylinders were made by rolling hot-rolled plate with a method they had worked out themselves. With the known rolling methods, that wall thickness was held to be impossible to roll to so small a diameter. A European hydraulic press manufacturer ordered a press cylinder of 600 ton with a stroke of 2.000 mm . While it was being made, one of the firm’s engineers called in some concern: they had run the calculations and concluded that it was not possible. The answer was that those cylinders had been made by this method for thirty years. The cylinder was built and shipped. “We made mistakes, but we were not afraid and we did not back down. We never said, ‘This is not even done in Europe, so why should it fall to us to do it?’ Do not be afraid of what is new and different.” 1990 Defence ### “Only Ali Şükrü Bey can sort your job out” One day a long-standing customer described how pleased he was with his press and left. The other visitor waiting in the room was not someone they knew: a retired officer looking for a solution for producing composite protective material for the Turkish army. When he was asked, “How did you find us?”, his answer was this: “Wherever I went they told me, ‘Only Ali Şükrü Bey can sort your job out.’ The conversation I have just witnessed explains well enough why they said so.” That is how the press technology used in the manufacture of composite-based protective plates and helmets began. 2000 Generational handover ### Hadımköy and three generations During the construction of the Hadımköy plant the children followed their father’s example. Ali Erdem and Cem had been in the workshop since their primary school summer holidays: “Our playground was the workshop and our toys were metal parts.” Both became mechanical engineers. Ali Şükrü Koçan was a primary school graduate. Engineers who came to place an order would ask which school he had graduated from and be taken aback when they heard the answer. He trained a great many apprentices, masters and engineers. ÖZKOÇ MAKİNA is aware that the continuity of its quality is possible only if changing and developing customer expectations are identified and met fully and correctly. For this reason, design, manufacturing activities, customer satisfaction, after-sales services and experience are always given high priority at ÖZKOÇ MAKİNA. The main principle observed in all the activities of ÖZKOÇ MAKİNA, from purchasing through to after-sales, is to do the right thing the first time and to increase the competitive strength of the company through continual improvement. To that end, ÖZKOÇ MAKİNA selects its suppliers with care and maintains its relations with them on a win-win basis. It follows international technological developments and reflects contemporary practice in product quality. It shares its experience on this subject with its employees and suppliers and raises their awareness. ### Our Certificates #### ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System. #### CE European conformity marking. #### R&D Centre Approved by the Ministry of Industry and Technology. ### What the policy amounts to: quality is proven before delivery The text above is a statement of intent; what it amounts to is measured at three points along the production chain. The design of every press is verified before it goes into manufacture; because the welded frame and the machining are done in our own workshops, intermediate inspection is not handed over to a supplier; and before delivery the press is run in our own plant and tested against its tonnage, stroke and cycle figures. --- ## Hydraulic Press Service, Maintenance and Spare Parts URL: https://ozkoc.com.tr/en/service/ Hydraulic press service: commissioning, operator training, breakdown response, overhaul and original spare parts. ##### Please send us the following when you request a part **Serial number**: It is on the machine plate — it lets us match the part to the project **Year of manufacture**: If the serial number cannot be read, it narrows down the match **Part description**: Its name, its position or, if you have it, the part number **Photograph**: A photograph of the part and of the plate speeds up the match ##### Why an original part - On a hydraulic press the cylinders, valves and sealing elements are selected according to the tonnage of the press and its cycle regime. - An equivalent part may work in the short term. - But it can change the cycle time, the oil temperature and the behaviour of the safety functions. - For a spare part, we hold the record of which project the press was calculated for and which part was fitted. ##### Common faults and the first check The symptoms below are the ones most often reported on hydraulic presses. The first check is limited to what can be done without stopping the machine; a fault is never traced by disabling a safety function. **Pressure does not build, tonnage is short**: The oil level, the suction strainer and the pressure control valve are checked first. If the pump sound has changed or the pressure drops under load, the pump or the relief valve is examined. **The ram does not hold its position, it drifts**: The cylinder seals, the pilot-operated check valve and a leak in the lines are the first suspects. Drift under load is a safety matter; nobody goes under the ram. **Oil temperature is rising**: Hydraulic oil ages rapidly above 60 °C. The cooler, the oil level and viscosity, a blocked filter and running at high pressure while idling are checked. **Leakage**: The hoses, the fittings and the cylinder seals are checked in that order. If the location of the leak and the colour of the oil are sent as a photograph, diagnosis is faster. **The press does not start, it shows a fault**: The safety circuit — emergency stop, light curtain and door switch — and the fault message on the HMI are read. A fault is never traced by disabling a safety element. **Noise and vibration**: Air in the suction line (cavitation), a low tank level and a loose connection are the most common causes; the pump sound should be recorded from the first moment. ##### Periodic maintenance The intervals depend on the number of cycles, the oil quality and the ambient temperature; contact us with the serial number for the maintenance plan of your own press. **Every shift**: Oil level and leak check; testing of the emergency stop and the light curtain; abnormal noise. **Weekly**: Oil temperature, filter clogging indicator, lubrication of the columns and guides. **Monthly**: Hoses and fittings, control cabinet fan and filter, tightness of the electrical connections, bolster parallelism. **Annually**: Oil analysis or oil change, filter replacement, accumulator nitrogen pressure where fitted, seal condition and verification of the safety circuit. ##### Frequently asked questions about service #### Which presses do you service? On the presses we build ourselves we work from the drawings and part records of the project. On presses from other manufacturers we examine the machine in place and explain what can be done on the hydraulic, electrical and control side. #### What happens when we report a breakdown? When you report it, we take the serial number, the symptom and the fault message on the HMI. Diagnosis is made first by telephone or remotely; if necessary a site visit is planned and the parts needed are identified in advance. #### Where do you provide service? The factory and service centre are in Arnavutköy, Istanbul. Commissioning, operator training and on-site response take place at the plant where the press is installed, in Turkey and in the countries we export to. Today ÖZKOÇ presses are in production at plants in Istanbul and Kocaeli as well as in Ankara, Eskişehir, Bursa, Kayseri, Kahramanmaraş, Gaziantep, Hatay and Osmaniye; our service team goes on site in these provinces. #### Can you modernise our old press? Yes. On older presses that are still in working order the hydraulic, electrical and control systems are renewed; the frame is kept, and the press returns to production with up-to-date safety and control equipment. #### What do we need for a spare parts order? The serial number on the machine plate, the year of manufacture, the name or position of the part and a photograph. Since we hold the record of which project the press was calculated for and which part was fitted, the match is made from there. #### Can we use an equivalent part? The cylinders, valves and sealing elements are selected according to the tonnage of the press and its cycle regime. An equivalent part may work in the short term; but it can change the cycle time, the oil temperature and the behaviour of the safety functions. Today presses from 70 tonnes up to 7,000 tonnes are built here — for seven sectors, from automotive to the defence industry, from cookware to metalworking. There is no off-the-shelf product. Every press is calculated for the part the customer presses, for its material and for the cycle target; requests specific to a process are treated not as a “deviation from the standard” but as a design input. That has a direct bearing on the work here: you never do the same job twice. The assembly hall at the Hadımköy plant — where the work is done. ### The links a press passes through From design through to commissioning, the whole chain runs within ÖZKOÇ’s own teams. The headings below correspond to the “field you are interested in” list in the application form. **Design**: The frame and bolster calculations are verified before manufacture begins; the critical dimensions are fixed at the design stage. **Welded frame manufacture**: The crossbeams and the supporting plates are joined with a prepared weld bevel; the seam does not stay on the surface, it works into the section, and the frame does not deflect under load. **Machining**: Because the welded frame and the machining are done in our own workshops, intermediate inspection is not handed over to a supplier. **Hydraulics**: The cylinders, valves and sealing elements are selected according to the tonnage of the press and its cycle regime. The prefill valve our founder developed in 1975 is still in use today. **Electrics and PLC / HMI**: The control and software side of the press — one of the links in the “under one roof” chain described on the home page. **Assembly and acceptance testing**: Before delivery the press is run in our own plant and tested against its tonnage, stroke and cycle figures. **Commissioning and service**: Installation on site, operator training, breakdown response, overhaul and spare parts. The work of this link is mostly done at the customer’s plant. ### Why work at ÖZKOÇ Everything below is also written on other pages of this site and can be checked. We have not written anything here that we cannot verify. #### We never build the same press twice Every press is calculated for the customer’s part; there is no such job as “one more of that model”. Every project means a new calculation, a new approach to the die and a new problem. #### The whole job is in-house Design, welded frame, machining, hydraulics, PLC/HMI and commissioning are all under one roof. You learn by getting to know a whole machine, not a single part. #### The machine you build outlives you The economic life of a hydraulic press runs to decades; its maintenance, its overhaul and its spare parts are handled from the same place throughout that time. #### R&D Centre ÖZKOÇ’s R&D Centre is approved by the Ministry of Industry and Technology. Development is carried out here, in our own centre. #### The master–apprentice tradition Our founder Ali Şükrü Koçan was a primary school graduate and a self-taught machinist; he trained a great many apprentices, masters and engineers. A diploma is not the only measure here — read the history . #### Certified quality discipline ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System and the CE conformity marking. Before delivery, quality is checked separately at design, at manufacture and at acceptance testing. ### Send your CV by e-mail No file can be attached to the form: the site’s file pipeline handles images only, whereas CVs are PDF or Word. URL: https://ozkoc.com.tr/en/what-is-a-hydraulic-press/ A hydraulic press turns pump power into large pressing force by Pascal's principle. How it works, how it differs from a mechanical press, how to choose one. ÖZKOÇ A hydraulic press is a forming machine that converts oil pressure in a closed circuit into force by Pascal's principle: a pump delivers oil under pressure to the main cylinder, the piston drives the ram carrying the upper die, and the force is applied to the workpiece. Pressure × piston area = force; the larger the area, the more tonnage the same pressure produces. ### How does it work? A cycle completes in three stages. Closing: the ram descends fast and unloaded — this stage does not affect part quality, it only shortens the cycle. Working: when the die touches the part, speed drops and pressure rises; while the material flows, the force is available at every point of the stroke. Return: the directional valve reverses the circuit and the ram travels back up. Working pressure sets the force, pump flow sets the speed — the two are designed independently. ### How does it differ from a mechanical (eccentric) press? An eccentric press strikes with the energy stored in a flywheel, through a crank: it is fast, but delivers full tonnage only close to bottom dead centre. The advantage of the hydraulic press is not speed but control : nominal force at any desired point of the stroke, speed profiled to the part, the stroke stopped wherever needed, and blank-holder force set independently of the drawing force. That is why deep drawing, hot moulding, composites and sizing are done on hydraulic presses. ### Main components - Frame — the steel structure that carries the force; the market calls the open-gap form a C-frame and the closed form an H-frame . ÖZKOÇ presses have closed frames. - Main cylinder and ram — the piston that produces the force and the moving mass that carries the upper die. - Hydraulic power unit — pump, motor, oil tank, valve group and cooling; this is the hydraulic system that supplies the press with pressure and flow. - Cushion (ejector) — the second circuit that restrains the blank in deep drawing and ejects the part in forming. - Controls — PLC/HMI: recipes, speed-force profiles, the safety chain. All the terms — daylight, stroke, net usable area, cushion stroke — are defined in the press glossary . ### How do you choose the right press? Tonnage is not picked from a catalogue; it is calculated from the part's material, thickness, formed area and the type of process. The same part asks for one force in deep drawing and another in cutting. Frequent questions are on the FAQ page ; share your part drawing and the technical quotation is prepared with tonnage, bolster and stroke. ÖZKOÇ has built hydraulic presses in İstanbul since 1964, from 70 to 7,000 tonnes — all 16 press families are here . Workshop hand presses and bench presses below 70 tonnes are not part of the ÖZKOÇ range. Request a Quote --- ## H-Frame Hydraulic Press URL: https://ozkoc.com.tr/en/h-frame-press/ H-frame (closed-frame) hydraulic press: why it scales to high tonnage, where it is preferred, how it differs from a C-frame. A guide from ÖZKOÇ, 70–7,000 t. Presses An H-frame hydraulic press carries the force symmetrically through two uprights in a closed frame; seen from the front it traces the letter H. Because no gap is forced open, deflection stays small and die parallelism is preserved even at high tonnage — which is why it is the natural body of large presses. ### Where is it preferred? Deep drawing, large-bolster forming, transfer lines and dies with off-centre load ask for a closed frame. In ÖZKOÇ's range from 70 to 7,000 tonnes the high-tonnage presses belong to this family; the welded body is fabricated as a single piece with prepared weld bevels. ### How it differs from the four-column design In a four-column press the ram is guided on cylindrical corner columns; all four sides stay open, so feeding and die change are easy. The welded H body is stiffer and preferred at high tonnage. In ÖZKOÇ naming the closed welded body is the monoblock , the column-guided design the column-type (pin-guided) ; the choice follows part size, die access and automation. ### C-frame or H-frame? The short answer: if access and economy come first and tonnage is moderate, what the market calls a C-frame — an open-gap body; as tonnage, die size and tolerance grow, an H-frame. ÖZKOÇ presses have closed frames; we do not build open-gap (C-frame) bodies. The full comparison is on the FAQ page, the naming in the press glossary . ### Our presses related to this body - Deep Drawing Press — the blank holder prevents wrinkling; drawing speed is set independently. - Hydraulic Forming Press — force at any desired point of the stroke. - Hydraulic Transfer Press — multi-station series production. İstanbul since 1964. ÖZKOÇ ÖZKOÇ has manufactured hydraulic presses in İstanbul since 1964. Everything happens under one roof at the Hadımköy plant: design, welded-frame fabrication, machining, hydraulic and electrical assembly, PLC/HMI software, acceptance testing and on-site commissioning. The range runs from 70 to 7,000 tonnes; a press is not picked from a catalogue — it is sized to the part. ### Why manufacture under one roof? A press loses its quality not in any single stage but in the handovers between stages: the tolerance of an outsourced welded frame is carried into machining, the assumptions of outsourced software into commissioning. When every stage lives in the same factory, each stage's output is the measured input of the next — and responsibility is never split. ### The manufacturing stages - Design — starts from the part drawing and the process; tonnage, bolster and stroke are calculated and the frame is sized for stiffness. - Welded frame — bodies are fabricated as a single piece with prepared weld bevels; the frame is closed (double-upright or column-guided) — see the H-frame guide . - Machining — guide surfaces and the bolster are machined on the stress-relieved body after welding; this is where die parallelism is founded. - Hydraulic and electrical assembly — cylinder, pump-valve group and cabinet; pressure sets the force, flow sets the speed, and the two are designed independently. - PLC/HMI software — recipes, speed-force profiles and the safety chain are written in-house; the same team answers when needs change in the field. - Testing and commissioning — the press is tried under load at the factory, installed and run in production conditions on site, and the operators are trained — after-sales starts here. ### What kinds of presses do we build? Deep drawing , forming , cutting and transfer presses, plus hot moulding presses for SMC/BMC, composites, silicone, brake linings, melamine and ballistic plates — all 16 press families . We serve automotive, defence, cookware, metalworking, construction, healthcare and energy, and export on five continents. ### Custom manufacturing: a non-standard request is not a deviation A request with non-standard tonnage, bolster or process is a design input for us. We inspect the machine in place and tell you what can be done on the hydraulic, electrical and control side. What drives the price is explained on a separate page ; for technical questions the FAQ is ready. Request a Quote --- ## Hydraulic Press Price URL: https://ozkoc.com.tr/en/hydraulic-press-price/ A hydraulic press price is not a list price; tonnage, bolster and stroke, extra axes, heating, automation and safety set it. What to send to get a quotation. ÖZKOÇ A hydraulic press has no ready list price, because a press is sized to the part. What sets the price is not the machine's catalogue but what your part asks for: pressing force, bolster size and stroke, additional axes, heating, automation and safety equipment. ### The main items that make up the price - Pressing force (tonnage) — it grows the frame, the cylinder and the hydraulic power unit together; this is the single largest item in the price. - Bolster size and stroke — a large die asks for a bigger frame and longer guides, independently of tonnage. - Additional axes — a cushion (blank holder) and a bottom ejector mean a second hydraulic circuit; in deep drawing they are usually unavoidable. - Heating — hot moulding work such as SMC/BMC, silicone, brake linings and melamine adds heated platens and temperature control. - Automation and safety — feeding, robot interface, light curtain, two-hand control; these scale with the quantity and with the work-safety requirement. ### Why does a "catalogue price" mislead? Two presses of the same tonnage are entirely different machines once bolster size and equipment differ. Publishing an unverified catalogue figure would steer you either to a machine that costs far more than you need or to one that will not do your job. That is why we publish no figures; we speak in the terms of the glossary and give the numbers in the quotation. ### What should you send to get a quotation? The part drawing (or a photo of a sample), the material grade and thickness, the annual quantity and the cycle target, and the details of an existing die if there is one. With these the technical quotation is prepared together with the tonnage, bolster and stroke figures. If the process interests you, see the manufacturing page ; for common questions, the FAQ . Request a Quote --- ## Frequently asked questions URL: https://ozkoc.com.tr/en/faq/ The questions we hear most when buying a hydraulic press: daylight vs stroke, C-frame vs H-frame, tonnage sizing and what drives the price. ÖZKOÇ The questions we hear most when buying a hydraulic press: daylight vs stroke, C-frame vs H-frame, tonnage sizing and what drives the price. #### What is daylight, and how does it differ from stroke? Daylight is the gap left between the two bolsters when the ram is at the top; stroke is the distance the ram travels. Your die has to FIT into the daylight, while your part has to be FORMED within the stroke. The stroke is always smaller than the daylight and the two cannot be used in place of each other. #### Hydraulic press or eccentric (mechanical) press? An eccentric press is fast and, on short-stroke, high-volume cutting/piercing work, superior in terms of cycle time. The strength of the hydraulic press is control: the nominal force can be obtained at any desired point of the stroke, the speed and the blank holder force can be set to suit the part, and the stroke can be stopped wherever wanted. Deep drawing, hot moulding, composite and sizing work call for that control, which is why they are done hydraulically. #### How do you determine the tonnage of the press? Tonnage is not picked from a catalogue; it is worked out by calculating the material and the thickness of the part, the area being formed and the type of process. The same part calls for one force in deep drawing and another in cutting. If you share your part drawing and your process details, the technical quotation is prepared together with the tonnage, bolster size and stroke figures. #### Column-type (pillar) or monoblock? In the column-type structure the ram is guided on the cylindrical columns at the corners; because all four sides of the machine stay open, feeding, robots and die changes are easy. In the monoblock structure the welded one-piece frame both carries and guides, and it is more rigid at high tonnage. The choice is made according to the tonnage, the die size and the need for automation. #### What is the cushion (ejector) for — does every press need one? No. A cushion is needed in deep drawing to restrain the flow of the sheet into the die (to prevent wrinkling) or to push the finished part up out of the die. It is not needed in cutting, coining and simple forming work. If your process draws sheet metal, whether the cushion force is adjustable determines the result. #### Why are there no figures for some presses in the technical tables? Because those presses are sized to the project and we do not want to publish an unverified figure. Since the bolster size, the stroke and the tonnage change with the part, giving a single “catalogue value” would be misleading. Where we do give figures, we also state that this is an example configuration. #### What is the difference between a C-frame and an H-frame hydraulic press? In the press the market calls a C-frame, the body traces a C in side view; the front and both sides are open, die access is easy and it is economical at mid tonnages. An H-frame (double-upright) press carries the force symmetrically in a closed frame; with less deflection it scales to high tonnages. In ÖZKOÇ naming the closed welded body is monoblock and the column-guided design column-type (pin-guided); the choice follows part size, die access and automation needs. The presses ÖZKOÇ builds have closed frames; we do not build open-gap (C-frame) bodies. #### What determines the price of a hydraulic press? There is no list price; the press is sized to your part. The main cost drivers are pressing force (tonnage), bolster size and stroke, additional axes such as the cushion / ejector, heating, automation and safety equipment. Share the part drawing and the annual quantity, and the technical quotation is prepared with exactly these items. Glossary · Presses --- ## Glossary of press terms URL: https://ozkoc.com.tr/en/glossary/ What the terms used in the technical tables mean. The naming is the same as the canonical names we use in our technical quotations. ÖZKOÇ What the terms used in the technical tables mean. The naming is the same as the canonical names we use in our technical quotations. **Pressing Force Pressing Force**: The greatest force the press can apply to the workpiece; it is given in tonnes and is the figure called the press’s “tonnage” in everyday language. On a hydraulic press this force can be obtained at every point of the stroke — on a mechanical (eccentric) press it reaches its full value only in a narrow band close to bottom dead centre. **Construction Type Construction Type**: The load-bearing structure of the press. In the column-type (pillar) design the ram is guided on the cylindrical columns at the corners; in the monoblock design the welded one-piece frame both carries and guides. The column-type structure is convenient for side access and for attaching automation, while the monoblock structure is more rigid at high tonnage. **Net Usable Area Net Usable Area**: The usable surface of the lower bolster to which a die can be clamped (width × length). It is not the same as the outer dimension of the bolster: the clearance between the columns and the point where the clamping slots end define the real limit. The base of the die has to fit within this area. **Daylight Daylight**: The greatest vertical gap left between the upper and the lower bolster when the ram is at its top position. The shut height of the die, the height of the part and the ejection allowance all have to fit into this gap together; if the daylight is not enough, the die physically will not go into the machine. After tonnage, it is the dimension most often overlooked when choosing a press. **Stroke Stroke**: The distance the ram travels from its top position to its bottom position. It is often confused with daylight: daylight describes a GAP, stroke describes a MOVEMENT, and the stroke is always smaller than the daylight. On deep parts the stroke needed is the depth of the part plus the allowance for taking it out of the die. **Cushion / Ejector Cushion / Ejector**: A second cylinder arrangement placed under the lower bolster that applies force from below upwards. In deep drawing it holds the sheet at the die opening and restrains the flow of the material (blank holder force); on forming and casting presses it pushes the finished part up out of the die. The cushion stroke is the travel of this arrangement. **Ram Ram**: The moving mass pushed by the main cylinder that carries the upper die. All the speed figures of the press (closing, working, return) are ram speeds. Whether the ram comes down parallel to the bolster directly determines die life and part tolerance. **Working Speed Working Speed**: The speed at which the ram advances under load while forming. It is markedly lower than the closing speed because it gives the material time to flow. In deep drawing this speed directly governs wrinkling and tearing; that is why it needs to be adjustable. **Closing Speed Closing Speed**: The speed at which the ram comes down idle until it touches the workpiece. It does not affect part quality, it only shortens the cycle time; that is why it is kept many times higher than the working speed. **Return Speed Return Speed**: The speed at which the ram rises to its top position after finishing the work. Together with the closing speed it sets the “dead time” of the cycle — in series production these two figures carry the hourly part count. **Hydraulic Power Unit Hydraulic Power Unit**: The power source made up of the pump, motor, oil tank, valve block and cooling. The working pressure determines the FORCE of the press and the pump flow rate its SPEED; the two are designed independently of each other. **Light Curtain Light Curtain**: Optical protection that stops the ram when a hand enters the danger zone. It is used together with two-hand control: if both of the operator’s hands are on the control, they cannot be in the die area. **Frame Types: C / H / Four-Column C-Frame / H-Frame / Four-Column Press**: In the market, “C-frame” denotes a body open at the front and both sides that traces a C in side view; “H-frame” a closed welded frame with two uprights; “four-column” a design where the ram is guided on corner columns. In ÖZKOÇ naming the closed welded body is called monoblock and the column-guided design column-type (pin-guided). The presses ÖZKOÇ builds have closed frames; we do not build open-gap (C-frame) bodies. FAQ · Presses
